What’s the better demonstration team, the Blue Angels or the Red Arrows?

I may be biased because I was Navy, but the Blue Angels are the best, had a buddy that got assigned to them years ago. Think about this, can the Red Arrows, Snowbirds, or Thunderbirds launch from a carrier deck at the beginning of their shows? They did it for fleet week in Frisco years ago off my first ship, The USS Abraham Lincoln. The winner hands down…………..? The Blue Angels!

You make it sound as if no one else here appreciates anyone else but the US. I have seen the other flight demo teams, and in my OPINION, the Blue Angels are best. So what? You sound like you’re touting the Red Arrows yourself, and to take a snippet of that last paragraph you posted, “Everything American is automatically best”. Sounds like to you, everything British is automatically best.

I also liked your comment on the carrier takeoff and landing being a common thing that a demo or test pilot could do. Lets see you do it bud, in the dead of night on a pitching deck. Then tell me how easy it is. I’m sure you think it’s commonplace because the Brits use VSTOL aircraft to do it. You’re post is a reflection of how closed-minded you think we americans are. Re-read your post and tell us different.

Where can I find a regular bow to purchase?

I want like a basic bow and arrow to practice archery with. None of that high tech compound wussy BS. I just want to do it like the warriors of the past did.

Someone has read James Fenimore Cooper. And/or seen the movie.

There are a lot of great bowmakers out there, and I for one can only encourage archers to go the traditional way. Pulleys and high-tech composites and bow-sights are all good, but you truly get the feel of archery when there are fewer components between you and the shaft you’re shooting, preferably right off of your fist instead of some arrow-shelf.

For very good recurves, I would recommend you deal with Ed Gilbert, at www.horsebows.com. He deals in bows made by Kassai, which are magnificent weapons. But I highly recommend you look up Kassai’s website, or Grozer’s. They are probably the finest makers of recurves out there today.

However, if you are interested in an English-style or Japanese-style longbow, I’m afraid I can’t help you much. I’m a recurve man myself.

If you want something made of authentic materials, be ready to pay through the nose. While wood, horn and sinew can outdo modern materials, they are also much, much more expensive. However, I would definitely love to fire a horn and sinew bow someday…

What is the right Noise Reduction Rate (NRR) for disposable ear plugs when shooting at the rang?

I am wondering what is the right Noise Reduction Rate (NRR) for shooting at the range. I’m trying to buy in bulk and found some decent deals but i need to know what to get. I keep hearing NRR32 is pretty good but i don’t know.

I just went through a bunch of this for some industrial hygiene training at work.

Most of the soft ear plugs will clip about 20dB… that will get you into a safe range with most common firearms.
